A Dark So Deadly

Stuart MacBride (http://www.stuartmacbride.com/) was born in Dumbarton but grew up in Aberdeen. He is the author of several crime novels featuring DS Logan McRae. He has been shortlisted for the ‘Theakstons’s Old Peculier Crime Novel of the Year Award’ twice. MacBride won the 2007 CWA Dagger in the Library, awarded for a body of work, and was named Best Breakthrough Author at the 2008 ITV Crime Thriller Awards. The author has built up an enthusiastic following for his crime fiction.

MacBride’s offering for 2017 is A Dark So Deadly. The regional police forces such as Strathclyde no longer exist, and ‘Police Scotland’ now features in crime fiction. Where does such an organisation dump the officers it can’t get rid of? Officers who are the outcasts, the troublemakers, the compromised. One such is Officer DC Callum MacGregor who is now lumbered with all the boring dead end cases. So when an ancient mummy turns up at the Oldcastle tip, it’s his job to find out which museum it’s been stolen from.

But then MacGregor uncovers links between the ancient corpse and three missing young men, and life starts to get a lot more interesting. O Division’s Major Investigation Teams already have more cases than they can cope with, so, against everyone’s better judgement, the ‘Misfit Mob’ just have to manage this one on their own. No one expects them to succeed, but right now they’re the only thing standing between the killer’s victims and their slow, lingering deaths. The question is, can they prove everyone wrong before the beast strikes again?

Read about this in fiction over the Easter break in case any real life clues begin to appear in Lanark. I’m sure, being Easter, you can rise to the occasion. Enquire at your local library. Check if this grisly new detective mystery is in stock by consulting the online catalogue at https://www.sllclibrary.co.uk/cgi-bin/spydus.exe/MSGTRN/OPAC/BSEARCH
